Chapo Siempreverde is a tour operator company, recently established, focused on nature tourism and whose main distinction is precisely to offer uncongested and pristine destinations.
Our community project
We are a community organization committed to defense and sustainable development of Lake Chapo. We live on the north and south banks of Lake Chapo and in villages belonging to Cochamó commune, historically connected to Lake Chapo.
We were born to defend the environmental integrity of Lake Chapo basin, which has had to endure for thirty years the disastrous effects of watershed transfer associated to the operation of Canutillar hydroelectric plant, currently owned by Colbún S.A.
We have put faith in food and energy sovereignty, the rescue of rural traditions, solidarity, connection with nature and the return to our cultural origin. We believe in freedom and autonomy of local communities.
An inter-basin water transfer moves water from one watershed to another. It is characterized by an excessive extraction of water from the original basin, the non-restitution of water supply and the consequent disruption of ecological balance in the original basin. The basins affected by Canutillar power plant are Lake Chapo, Chamiza river, Blanco river and Lenca-Pangal river.
